Parker Hannifin, Derby

The specialised service of Optimair was requested to design an internal environmental scheme for hydraulic fittings firm Parker Hannifin.

They  required a full comfort control scheme for the new factory extension, including adequate ventilation, to conform with Health and Safety Legislation; extraction to remove excess heat and process fumes and a controllable climate for the newly built offices.

Due to the nature of the manufacturing process, it was necessary to design a system to prevent the migration of air for the planting area to the other processing areas due to the corrosive nature of the products used. It was also important to eliminate the risk of draughts during both winter and summer months.

A ventilation provision was made to force in replacement fresh air which would eliminate hot areas within the factory, reduce the ingress of cold air through doors and windows and ensure air movement into the plant area rather than out.

The design of the office building incorporated a fully glazed elevation. During the summer months this would create unbearable heat loads within the office causing a stuffy uncomfortable environment. Therefore a split air conditioning system was designed and installed to create and maintain a controllable comfortable working environment.
